John Fredriksen-controlled Northern Ocean, a semisub rig spin-off of Northern Drilling, has sealed a contract extension in Namibia for the 2019-built Deepsea Bollsta while the start-up of another one of its units in the country has encountered some setbacks.
Supermajor Shell has exercised and option to add a further six months to the semi’s work scope, keeping the rig busy until June 2024. The extension is worth around $88.6m and comes with a further $81m six-month extension option attached.
Meanwhile, Northern Ocean’s Deepsea Mira, set to start a multi-country contract for TotalEnergies with its first campaign also in Namibia, has experienced some delays in loading equipment and performing required maintenance during the transit.
The contract worth $135m was expected to start in the middle of the second quarter; however, this has now been pushed back to the end of the same quarter. The rig left Norway in April and is currently in Namibia. Both rigs are managed by Odfjell Drilling.
