Namibia University of Science and Technology Explores Partnership With Indonesia

The Coordinator for the Information, Social and Cultural Section at the Indonesian Embassy in Windhoek, Mr. Ari Hadiman, met with representatives from the Namibia University of Science and Technology (NUST). Dr. Anna Matros Goreses, Director of the Project Service Unit at NUST, and Kuda Brandt, Communications Coordinator at NUST, were in attendance (02/08). This meeting was aimed to discuss steps to strengthen educational cooperation and identify opportunities for NUST to collaborate with partners in Indonesia, such as cooperation in vocational fields, especially in the hospitality sector.

The Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in Windhoek shared information about Indonesia as the Chair of ASEAN in 2023. To provide more information about ASEAN to the faculty and students of NUST, the Indonesian Embassy in Windhoek plans to organize a Public Lecture about ASEAN to improve knowledge about ASEAN’s role and provide opportunities for NUST to participate in discussions on regional issues actively.

On the same occasion, the Indonesian Embassy in Windhoek also introduced the Global Town Hall that will be held by the Foreign Policy Community of Indonesia (FPCI) on 2 September 2023. Some of the topics discussed at the forum were relevant and beneficial to Namibia, so NUST welcomed the possibility of being the first African representative to participate in the event. It shows NUST’s passion to contribute to the global dialogue and strengthen its partnership with Indonesia.X

The Indonesian Embassy in Windhoek will facilitate more in-depth virtual discussions between NUST and FPCI soon. The discussion is expected to strengthen the exchange of knowledge, ideas, and experiences between the two parties and open up opportunities for further collaboration in education, research, and diplomacy.

NUST is a Namibian university specializing in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM). NUST has agreed to academic cooperation with Telkom University (Tel-U Bandung) in June 2022. On February 2023, they met in a webinar forum with the theme “Commercialisation of Technology.” In collaboration, NUST is planning a meeting with Tel-U at the end of September 2023.
