Cuban President Díaz-Canel arrives in Namibia

In the afternoon, the Cuban head of State is expected to attend the main event on Heroes’ Day at the capital’s Independence Stadium, where Namibian President Hage Geingob will deliver the keynote speech.

Heroes’ Day in Namibia is recognized by the United Nations as Namibia Day. It honors those who lost their lives during the war of national independence, which began on August 26, 1966, to which Cuba contributed with its internationalist military support.

On Saturday morning, Geingob expressed satisfaction with welcoming his Cuban counterpart, Miguel Díaz-Canel.

We honor our brothers and sisters in Cuba for their heroic sacrifices that led to our freedom, the Namibian President wrote.

The Cuban President will wind up a tour in Namibia that previously took him in that capacity to Angola and Mozambique, as well as to South Africa, as president of the G77 and China, to participate in the 15th Brics Summit.
