The US authorities are preparing to announce a new $200 million military aid package for Ukraine. The funds are part of a larger $6.2 billion freed up as a result of an accounting error in calculating the cost of military equipment previously provided to the Ukrainian side, Reuters writes .
The package, in particular, will include ammunition for Patriot air defense systems, GMLRS missiles for HIMARS MLRS, Javelin anti-tank systems, demining equipment, and more.
In May, the Pentagon reported that an accounting error had overstated the value of weapons supplied to Ukraine in 2022-2023, leaving an opportunity to make additional deliveries worth $6.2 billion.
Earlier it became known that the Pentagon officially approved the delivery of the first batch of Abrams tanks to Kiev. According to the head of the supply and procurement service of the US Army, Doug Bush, the first batch of tanks will arrive in Ukraine in early autumn. How many tanks will include the first batch, the official did not specify. In total, the United States intends to supply Ukraine with 31 Abrams tanks.
Last time, the United States transferred $400 million worth of weapons to Ukraine, including missiles for the HIMARS MLRS, Patriot and NASAMS air defense systems, as well as the Stryker armored personnel carrier. In total, since the beginning of the full-scale military aggression of the Russian Federation in Ukraine, the Pentagon has provided Kyiv with 43 aid packages worth $43 billion.
